I’m Mia Kahurangi. I write about hiking and getting to trailheads in New Zealand without wasting whole days on logistics.
This site started after one too many missed shuttles and one too many cotton hoodies on alpine tracks. I keep notes from real trips — what worked, what failed, what I’d do differently.
What You’ll Find Here

How This Site Works
I’m based in the South Island but write about tracks nationwide — Fiordland mud, Otago ridgelines, Central North Island alpine, the lot. I don’t accept payment to rank operators or gear. If I mention a company, it’s because I’ve used them or because readers emailed a straight question.
Articles here are living documents. I revisit guides when DOC changes access, when shuttle timetables shift, or when my own trip notes prove me wrong. Corrections are welcome — outdoor advice ages faster than we’d like.
Accuracy & Updates
No guide can promise perfect conditions on the day you walk. Treat every article as a starting point, then cross-check DOC track pages, weather forecasts, and operator websites before you pack the car.
